When is Waitangi Day this year?
Waitangi Day is celebrated on the 6th of February, which falls on a Saturday in 2027.
As this falls on a weekend a Public Holiday will be observed on Monday the 8th February 2027
Do I need to make changes to my payroll?
Saturday 6th February (Waitangi Day) can be a pay day, however Tuesday 9th February is not an available pay day in our system. Please use the calendar below to find out how this applies to your pay.
Pro tip: If you want to pay your employees on Tuesday 9th February, please get in touch to use our urgent same-day service for an additional charge of $15.
Employer obligations
Some of your employees might work on Waitangi Day, or take their regular workday as a paid day off. This will impact how you enter their timesheets. Find out how to enter public holidays on employee timesheets.
If your employee works on a public holiday, you are required to pay them ‘time and a half’ or 1.5 x their standard rate for hours worked this day. If the public holiday is an otherwise working day for this employee, you’ll also need to allocate a full day of alternative leave to their leave balance.
