When is Waitangi Day this year?
Waitangi Day is celebrated on the 6th of February every year, which falls on a Thursday in 2025.
Do I need to make changes to my payroll?
Thursday 6th February (Waitangi Day) can be a pay day, however Friday 7th February is not an available pay day in our system. Please use the quick quiz below to find out how this applies to your pay.

Employer obligations
Some of your employees might work on Waitangi Day, or take their regular workday as a paid day off. This will impact how you enter their timesheets. Find out how to enter public holidays on employee timesheets.
If your employee works on a public holiday, you are required to pay them ‘time and a half’ or 1.5 x their standard rate for hours worked this day. If the public holiday is an otherwise working day for this employee, you’ll also need to allocate a full day of alternative leave to their leave balance.
