When is King's Birthday public holiday this year?

New Zealand celebrates King's Birthday public holiday on the first Monday in June even though King Charles III was born on 14 November 1948. This year, the first Monday falls on June 3rd.

Do I need to make changes to my payroll?

Saturday 1st June can be a pay day, however Monday 3rd June (King's Birthday) and Tuesday 4th June are not available pay days in our system. Additionally, depending on your plan, your pay day and your payment method, you may need to adjust your pay to ensure it arrives on time.

Use the table below to find out if you need to make any changes to your payroll:

Info - Blue Block (1)Pro tip: If you want to pay your employees on Tuesday 4th June, please get in touch to use our urgent same-day service for an additional charge of $15.

Same-day pays are not available on King's Birthday Monday.

Employer obligations

Some of your employees might work on King's Birthday public holiday, or take the paid day off. This will impact how you enter their timesheets. Find out how to enter public holidays on employee timesheets.

If your employee works on a public holiday, you are required to pay them ‘time and a half’ or 1.5 times their standard rate for hours worked this day. If the public holiday is an otherwise working day for this employee, you’ll also need to allocate a full day of alternative leave to their leave balance.
